"A Full-Day Guided Tour of Samarkand"
Lunch in the city
Afternoon:
Bibi-Khanym Mosque After lunch, head to the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, one of the largest and most imposing structures in Samarkand. It was built by Tamerlane in the 14th century in honor of his wife, Bibi-Khanym.
The Samarkand Market (Siyob Bazaar) If you enjoy the atmosphere of local markets, stop by the Siyob Bazaar to buy souvenirs and experience daily local life.
Shah-i-Zinda Next, visit Shah-i-Zinda, a complex of mausoleums and tombs known as a necropolis. It is often considered one of the most sacred and magnificent sites in Samarkand. The architecture and blue tile mosaics are incredible, and the atmosphere is very peaceful.
  • Optional: Ulugh Beg Observatory If you have more time, end your day by visiting the Observatory of Ulugh Beg, the 15th-century scientist and astronomer. Although only ruins remain today, it is a fascinating place to discover the history of science in Central Asia.
Tour Itinerary:
09:00 AM: Meet your French-speaking guide at your hotel to begin your exploration of Samarkand.
Morning:
Registan Square Begin your tour at the Registan, the historical heart of Samarkand. This is a spectacular ensemble of three madrasahs (Islamic schools) dating from the 15th to the 17th centuries, featuring magnificent mosaics and impressive architecture. Take your time to soak in the beauty of the site and explore the historic buildings.
  • The Mausoleum of Amir Timur (Gur-e-Amir) Just a short distance from the Registan, visit the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum. This is the final resting place of the great conqueror Tamerlane (Amir Timur). Its architecture is a quintessential example of the Timurid style, famous for its iconic azure fluted dome.
